Meet Isra’a. At only 14, she was selected to be Chief Editor of a magazine entitled She Can Do. This magazine is rather different to typical magazines; it’s written by girls for girls, in their own words and language, so that their peers can relate to its content. As part of Save the Children’s Youth in Action programme, which has been rolled out in five countries, Isra’a and ten of her Egyptian peers attended workshops to help them build relevant skills, such as identifying a good story, photography and interviewing. Their task was then to feature inspiring women within their community who’d participated in Save the Children’s vocational training courses. Our Kenya-based videographer, Harrison, travelled to Sharkia, near to the Suez Canal, to meet Isra’a. With her help, he made this snappy, uplifting film, which depicts the girls very much in charge of their own editorial affairs and development more widely.
