Coca-Cola 5by20 SURI – Sabah, Malaysian Borneo

Why is it important to focus on women in development? There are many answers, but Coca-Cola have based their ambitious and admirable initiative, 5by20, on one principal premise. That is that the benefits of increasing women’s incomes tend to ripple outwards to improvements in child health and education, as well as community wellbeing.

Coca-Cola have committed themselves to the goal of empowering five million female entrepreneurs by 2020. In Sabah, on the Malaysian side of the island of Borneo, this has taken the form of training in business skills and financial management for female microentrepreneurs. Our Malaysia-based videographer, Rudi, created this bright, uplifting film to document the positive changes that 5by20 has brought for these women.
